Vertical Gardens

The installation of five living sculptures that will help to attract wildlife into the city has been completed.

'Vertical Gardens' is a unique concept, designed by artist John Packer, which have been installed along London Road.

The living work of art includes alpine foliage and plants to attract insects and birds to the city centre.

The five sculptures are each approximately six metres high and the plants are contained within a column of steel mesh.

In time, as the plants grow, the 'vertical garden' will become carbon-neutral (absorbing more carbon through photosynthesis than emitted in their production), helping to improve the city centre environment.
