Children In Need East Midlands Host

24/09/08

Westfield Derby to host East Midlands Children In Need.

Westfield Derby has won the bid to host this year’s Children In Need event for the whole of the East Midlands – beating off strong competition from some of the biggest cities in the region.

The BBC by-passed the likes of Nottingham, Leicester and perennial favourite East Midlands Airport to award Westfield Derby the honour of hosting its live East Midlands feed, which takes place on Friday 14 November.

From 1pm until the finale at 11.30pm, Westfield Derby will be packed to the rafters with hard-working East Midlanders who have been raising funds for disadvantaged children across the globe.

Each year the event gets bigger and more successful with more than £19m raised last year. What’s more, this year the East Midlands show will close with a spectacular fireworks display planned for the roof of Westfield Derby’s 2000-space Centre Car Park as the final fundraising totals are announced.

The announcement comes as Westfield Derby prepares to celebrate its first birthday – marking twelve months since the sparkling shopping mecca, with over 175 shops and one million square ft of retail space, opened.

Janine Bone, Westfield Derby Centre Manager, said: “We’ve been waiting with bated breath for news of the BBC’s decision to come in and are all absolutely delighted to hear we’ve been chosen as this year’s hosts.
“We want to make the people of Derby proud and make this truly a night to remember.  We’ve already got plenty of fundraising stunts and quirky events planned, many of which involve our retailers and the Westfield Derby team.  But, let’s not forget, this is an opportunity for everyone in the city to show their support for this worthy cause. We hope to see all of you on the day taking part – the more the merrier!”
