Ay Up Duck Race

25/06/08

In what promises to be the community event of the summer, the Ay Up Duck Race, supported by Westfield, hopes to raise over £5,000 to improve the lives of visually impaired people throughout Derbyshire.

On Monday 30 June, the Ay Up Duck Race sales will be launched at Westfield Derby.

Denby the duck, the mascot in chief, will be presiding over the launch as the ducks are released to the public to name and sponsor.

Ducks can be adopted for £2 each from Concierge in Westfield Derby, or through DAB, with a grand prize of £500 cash for the sponsor of the winning duck.

On the day of the race, there will be brass bands, face painting and gallons of other entertainments.

Robin Toal, fundraiser for DAB said: 'The Ay Up Duck Race promises to be a fantastic day out for all the family. With a grand prize of £500 up for grabs, there has never been a better time to support DAB’s work.
Get yourself down to Concierge in Westfield Derby and adopt a duck today.'

Marsha Forster-Brass, Marketing Manager for Westfield Derby said: ‘Westfield is delighted to be able to help DAB Sight Support with their duck race. The work the organisation does is so valuable in the local community, giving them space in the centre to help them drive awareness of this and sell as many ducks as possible is such an easy way for us to get involved.'

The money raised will go towards DAB’s work with visually impaired people within Derbyshire.
DAB runs front line advice centres in every eye clinic in Derbyshire; a 24 hour helpline; telephone and home befriending services; sport and leisure activities; provides equipment and resource centres and a service for children and young people with a visual impairment.
