Triple car park safety award for Westfield Derby

03/06/08

Westfield Derby's car parks are amongst the safest in the UK.

It’s official: Westfield Derby’s car parks are among the safest in the country.
The centre has just received the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) stamp of approval for all three of its customer car parks in recognition of their outstanding approach to customer safety and security.

Westfield’s Riverside and Basement Car Parks, together with the newly renamed Centre Car Park – formerly the Rooftop – all passed the ACPO ‘Park Mark’ tests with flying colours.

The Park Mark is only awarded to car parks that meet ACPO’s rigorous standards and can demonstrate a comprehensive approach to management practice, customer care and security features, which combine to  reduce crime and provide a safe environment for customers.

Janine Bone, Westfield Derby Centre Manager, said: “We are thrilled that our car parks have been acknowledged as some of the UK’s safest and most secure sites. There has been significant investment and the Westfield Derby team have worked rigorously to ensure that our customers have an enjoyable and safe experience every time they visit us.
“We’re particularly pleased with the Safer Parking Scheme Assessor’s review of the Centre Car Park, which has just reopened to customers following an improvement programme. Taking on board feedback from our shoppers on the layout of the car park, we believe that the enhancements will make a big difference to our customer’s experience.”

The Centre Car Park now boasts a whole raft of benefits including a redesigned layout to improve the flow of traffic, super-sized parking spaces and a car wash and valet service.
Centre car park is Westfield Derby’s largest with over 2,000 spaces and has direct access to the centre’s newest asset - Showcase Cinema de Lux.

In addition, Westfield Derby has introduced enhanced signage to assist with navigation and has more parent & child and disabled parking spaces than any other car park in the city.
The car park is also the location for M&S and Debenhams’ collect by car services, enabling customers to make their purchases in centre and have them loaded direct into their cars by centre staff.

Derbyshire Constabulary Assistant Chief Constable Dee Collis said “Design and management form the base of any successful security strategy. The commitment of Westfield to both security and safety within the design, construction and refurbishment of these three major car parks has paved the way for them successfully gaining ACPO ‘Safer Parking’ status. I’m delighted to present these awards to them.”
