Double award win for Westfield Derby Marketing Campaigns
09/05/08
Westfield Derby scooped two awards at the BCSC Purple Apple Awards.
Staff at Westfield Derby are celebrating after a double-award win in the Purple Apple awards after the centre’s launch in October last year.
The gongs were awarded in two categories; for the best single event of the launch of Westfield Derby from 9 October and for the launch strategic/overall marketing campaign and were the only centre to win two Purple Apples.
The awards are run by the British Council of Shopping Centres (BCSC) and judged by fellow Shopping Centre marketing professionals, with the glitzy award ceremony held last week at Wembley Stadium.
Centre Manager Janine Bone said: “It is fantastic to receive these acknowledgements from people that work in our industry. The events in October were truly spectacular and provided the perfect platform for us to launch Westfield Derby.”
The centre was awarded the Purple Apple for the best single event when celebrity, professional and community dancers wowed crowds by performing on stages across the malls. Strictly Come Dancing’s Tess Daly hosted the event on 9 October and shoppers were treated to a spectacular first week of entertainment including performances from Strictly stars Claire Sweeney and DJ Spoony, Swing Brazil and from community group Derby Dance.
The strategic/overall marketing campaign prize encompassed the strategy to position Westfield Derby as a ‘dramatically different’ shopping destination and included PR, event management, advertising and digital marketing.
The success of the campaign saw more than 150,000 customers on launch day and more than 4 million in the four seven weeks of trading, as well as more than £1million of positive media coverage.
